A refreshing boat journey @ Rs 6.50

In general on January 26, 2007 at 8:55 am

Once upon a time, there were more than 15 boats plying between Varapuzha and Kochi, the nearest city. This was the only mode of transport for the islanders living on the banks of river Periyar. Now most of these islands are connected by road (bridges), hence the number of boats have reduced to just 3 now. It is a very refreshing experience. You can witness the life on the banks of Periyar, the chinese nets, the churches, the coracles, yachts, and the soothing cold breeze. I have posted some of the photos taken by me during my recent boat journey between Varapuzha and Kochi on flickr. Click on the photos on the right.

How much one should grow to be little?

This was the theme shared during the Dec 31st midnight mass at Koonammavu church (monastry).  Definitely it has lots of meaning. When all of us are always trying to become somebody, here the call is to become nobody by serving others. Most of the great people around us followed this – Gandhi, Mother Teresa – some of the big names and I am sure that there are many lesser known ones. I think this is the essence of life itself. Becoming nobody by serving others. Only then life has some meaning. It can be by work itself, by helping others to smile….by helping them improve their lives a little.
